pleased to confer a Knighthood on Mr Mody the honour

could not be more fittingly bestowed and more fully

deserved. If Your

ourLordship should consent to recommend

Kr Mody for this mark of His Majesty's appreciation

for his public services I would suggest that I may be

allowed to make the announcement at the ceremony of

t

laying the foundallon stone of the University which I

anticipate wial take place in about two months

5

'time.

His Majesty's Government has signified ita

approval of the University project by granting a sum

of £ 300 per annum for scholarships, and His Majesty

has been most graciously pleased to shew his personal

interest by directing that the holders shall be called

"King Edward VII Scholars". The project originated with

Mr Mody's offer, and should Your Lordship be pleased to

recommend to His Majesty the high honour I have suggested

it would be viewed no doubt as a further mark of His

Majesty's approval, and would be a stimulus to the

raising of the balance of the funds still required.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's humble, obedient servant,

Haugary

Governor, &c.
